About Patricia Frederick

                   Who Am I…

My name is Patricia Frederick. I was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in October of 1964. I graduated from Cave Springs High School in 1982 and in 1987 I graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have a Standard Certification in Early Childhood, and Special endorsement in Physical Education and Language Arts. I have taught at Tenkiller Head Start for two years, and I taught eight years at Sallisaw Head Start. In September of 1998 I became one of Maryetta school’s prekindergarten four year old teachers, and I have been here every since. Maryetta is a wonderful place to teach, and a great facility for the children to learn and explore new concepts. I live in Sallisaw, Oklahoma with my husband Mike and one wonderful daughter Jacey. Together we enjoy riding horses, swimming, and camping.

                                    My Philosophy of Education…

I believe the purpose of education is to help children grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. I believe children learn best through hands on activities, experimenting and exploring, play activities, peer interactions, social play, dramatic play, constructive play and everyday situations. I believe children should be taught self esteem, a need to feel special and the best they can be, social skills, how to apply skills, how to solve problems, how to use previous experiences and apply them to new skills, and use creativity in their own unique ways. I believe children should be taught through age-appropriate activities at their own pace and letting them make choices. I believe the  conditions which children learn best is a place where they feel safe, where they feel special, and a place where all children’s needs are met. I believe the qualities of a good teacher are one who respects children, parents, and staff, one who makes a positive difference in a child, one who is warm and caring, flexible, really listens to children, are honest, shows enthusiasm, has lots of energy, are creative, are patient, are constantly  learning and knowing their own strengths and weaknesses.
