School Nurse selected for CDC program! Project SWITCH has selected Maryetta Public Schools School Nurse, Amanda Bellamy, to be one of 14 school nurses in the state to participate in a CDC leadership program designed to assist schools in adjusting to the challenges of COVID-19. According to Beverly Burk, RN, President of the School Nurse Organization of Oklahoma, Project SWITCH (Strengthening Wellness and Improving Teachers and Children’s Health) is a one-year supplemental program from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) with the goal of providing training and assistance to schools on the implementation of the CDC’s COVID-19 school-based guidance in the areas of physical activity, chronic disease management, social emotional climate, nutrition services, and supporting high risk/vulnerable populations. As part of the project, Mrs. Bellamy will attend monthly meetings and receive additional trainings. A region of the state will be assigned to each member of Project SWITCH, and nurses like Amanda Bellamy will conduct virtual Communities of Practice meetings to disseminate CDC information and provide professional support to individuals at other schools in the region.

In an effort to combat the effects of bullying, both in person and online, Maryetta is offering a free app to all students and their parents who have a smartphone or other electronic device. This program is designed to allow the student or their caregiver to anonymously report any event that threatens the safety and well being of any student. Once the report is made, it goes directly to Administration and the Counseling team, and is followed up on immediately. 3rd-8th grade teachers have been given this information to share with their students. All students have been informed not to download the app to their smartphone or device without the consent of their caregiver. The code to download the app is 2285. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher or the school counselor with any questions.
